Joining Stroud, Willink & Howard, LLC

We are always on the lookout for new additions to our legal team. If you are searching for a home to foster your legal career, you want a firm that will offer you real opportunities and the necessary tools to advance personally and professionally. Many brilliant careers have started here. Perhaps yours can, too.

For Attorneys

When we hire a new associate, we are looking far ahead. We hire attorneys and prospective attorneys who demonstrate high levels of academic achievement, initiative, and the promise to serve our clients as future members of our firm.

Stroud has been providing legal services since 1892 because we are focused on meeting our clients’ needs. From day one, we develop our talented new hires by offering significant levels of responsibility doing real work to meet the needs of real clients. We avoid busy work and paper pushing. Our associates work directly with senior attorneys and with our clients to learn the legal, business, and relationship skills necessary to be effective advocates.

We also believe that quality counsel requires not just a depth of knowledge in an area of specialization but also a broad, practical understanding of the legal issues that face business clients. Associates are not slotted into practices groups, but instead are exposed to the full breadth of our practice by being given projects from many of our practice areas. This comprehensive training serves our associates well as they shape and narrow the focus of their practices.

We are able to offer these experiences to our associates because of our strong client base. We have a wide range of clients, primarily consisting of businesses in the top tier of their industries in Wisconsin and the owners of those businesses. We also represent numerous individuals and smaller business clients throughout Wisconsin. Addressing the needs of these clients exposes our associates to interesting and challenging work and presents associates with the opportunity to develop into successful, respected, first-rate attorneys.

For Law Students

Stroud conducts a summer program for second-year law students. Our goal is to have one or two students in our program each year. Our summer program introduces second-year law students to the practice of law at our firm.

The summer program is designed to offer summer associates the benefits of working at an established Madison firm that provides the highest level of service to its clients. The firm distributes a wide variety of assignments that reflect work typically done by young associates, monitors workloads, and ensures that summer associates receive adequate feedback and guidance. In addition, each summer associate is assigned a mentor to review written assignments and guide him or her through the summer.

The summer program lasts for up to 12 weeks, depending on the summer associates’ school schedules. We set the bi-weekly compensation to be competitive with the Madison market. We expect to offer each successful graduate of our summer program a permanent position with the firm.

If you have any questions about our summer program, please contact:
