Practice Areas

Josh has been a farmer, an actor, a musician, and now, a lawyer. In all those things, he’s driven to solve problems and make other people’s lives better. He grew up on his family’s farm in Westfield, Wisconsin and returned there for 10 years after completing a theatre degree at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. While working with his parents and siblings, and building a family of his own, he saw the lack of affordable legal help for people in rural Wisconsin and decided to do something about it.

At the University of Wisconsin Law School, he discovered that the storytelling skills that work onstage are just as useful in the courtroom. He was awarded the Mock Trial Susan Steingass Award for Outstanding Trial Advocacy two years in a row and was part of the program’s competition team, which reached the semi-finals of the Texas Young Lawyers Association’s Regional Mock Trial Competition. He worked as a Rath Scholar, assisting Professor Renagh O’Leary in the first piece of large-scale comparative research on the role of probation and parole officers in state court sentencing. He also participated in the Law School’s Legal Assistance to Incarcerated Persons clinic, delivering written and oral advocacy on behalf of individuals who would otherwise be unrepresented and forgotten behind prison walls.

As an attorney, he splits his time between the firm’s Madison and Mount Horeb offices to maintain his connection with the rural communities he wants to serve. He has had the opportunity to assist with real estate transactions, contract drafting, civil litigation issues, child support modification, and criminal matters from misdemeanors to homicides. He also has not forgotten his commitment to assisting those in need, accepting criminal defense appointments through the State Public Defender as his work schedule allows. In all of these matters, he seeks to solve problems effectively and efficiently for his clients. At home, he shares the beautiful chaos of raising young children with his fiancé.
